SeniorsFirst Hosts "Leftovers": A Documentary about Senior Hunger in Winter Park
Over five million American seniors experience food insecurity and this month, AARP Orlando is working with SeniorsFirst about spreading the word about senior hunger with their documentary "LeftOvers". For years, AARP worked to increase awareness through its Drive to End Hunger Campaign and research shows that nearly 9 million people 50+ are at risk for hunger. While the Drive to End Hunger Campaign has passed, AARP continues to collaborate locally with organizational missions to help seniors and older adults across portfolio areas that impact them.
Factors that increase the risk of hunger with older Americans are:
- Living with a grandchild
- Living at or below the poverty line
- Missing high school education
- Widowed, divorced or separated
- Disabled or unemployed
While there are organizations across the nation located in each community to help older adults, awareness remains relatively low. Which is why AARP Orlando is working with SeniorsFirst as they host a 68-minute documentary where photographer and documentarian Seth Hancock travels the country to discover why seniors are the face of hunger in America and what is being done to make a difference in their lives.
Join SeniorsFirst for this inspired documentary and learn how you can make a change and learn about the organizations in Orlando available to help with this important issue.
