Connect with AARP New York for a five-part virtual series of Tai Chi, a gentle exercise that is suitable for older adults which offers the benefits of flexibility, muscle strengthening and endurance. AARP members and guests are invited to join us to learn the core principles of an art that creates unity between the body and mind.

The Tai Chi Five Animal Play is for anyone who wants to achieve relaxation, awareness and balance in their life. The five animal styles and forms help you to understand and adopt their movements: Tiger, Deer, Bear, Monkey and Crane.

Traditionally studying Tai Chi is a self-discovery process through exploring a new language and reconnecting with mindful activities. Register below to experience the healing power of Tai Chi!

There are many different styles and forms of Five Animal Play Qi Gong. The Tai Chi five animals involved in this practice are the Tiger, the Deer, the Bear, the Monkey, and the Crane. Each animal has two postures and forms, and in Five Animal Play Qi Gong, one learns to mimic the animals in order to understand and adopt their movements. Each animal represents one or more parts of the Five Elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Five Animal Play practice is something one can fall back on during times of stress, sadness, and joy, and it is wholeheartedly recommended for anyone who wants to achieve more relaxation, awareness, and balance in their life. Tiger Play represents wood, liver, gallbladder, eye, tendon, anger, spring. Deer Play represents water, kidney, bladder, ear, bones, fear, winter.

Monkey represents fire, heart, small intestine, tongue, pulse, happy, summer.

Bear represents earth, spleen, stomach, mouth, flesh, longing, late summer. Crane represents metal, lungs, large intestine, nose, skin, sadness, autumn.
