This month, AARP’s national theme month is focused on “Securing Your Financial Future” and AARP New York is featuring a profile of an attorney, Ron Fatoullah.  Mr. Fatoullah has been AARP’s Executive Council member for 6 years, and has been involved with AARP for 18 years. He also helps facilitate AARP Money Smarts financial workshops on Long Island.

During the workshops, he’s gotten great feedback from AARP members. “Everyone was very appreciative to have received valuable financial planning information designed for the 50+.”  The most concerning topics he has encountered include topics which he is well-versed in as an elder law attorney, “I find that the financial concerns older New Yorkers ask about most involve how to plan for unexpected long-term care needs, how to protect their assets for their children and grandchildren, will they have enough income and assets to continue to live a lifestyle of their choice.”

Of his experience with AARP, he says, “I find it extremely fulfilling to be a resource to AARP NY and enjoy educating AARP members on key legal and financial issues.”

Ron also serves as co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Alzheimer’s Association and when it comes to easing the financial challenges of families dealing with caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s, he suggests, “At the first signs of dementia, the planning will include how to pay for future long-term care at home and in a facility, as well as important documents before the individual becomes incapacitated.”

A long-time contributor to the community in Long Island, Ron prides himself on balancing his life and career, “Fortunately, I chose a profession that I absolutely love and now have the opportunity to see all of my hard work come to fruition over the years.”  He is an avid Pickelball player and frequently enjoys all live music that Long Island has to offer.  He also loves spending time with his 4-month old granddaughter.

With his continued passion for seniors and the disabled, he aspires to write another book on Elder Law. “The aging population on Long Island has increased dramatically, and there are increasing challenges, both financially and emotionally, to these families.”
