San Antonio, celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with AARP!

Posted on 09/06/23

Welcome to AARP San Antonio's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration! Statewide, AARP Texas is offering a host of vibrant, engaging, entertaining and educational activities that spotlight our Hispanic heritage. Here in San Antonio, we're taking this opportunity to honor and celebrate the many contributions of Latinos with the 10th anniversary of our signature event, Celebrando con AARP, recognition of civil rights trailblazer Jovita Idár, ballet folkloric performances and more!

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15. The celebration begins mid-month to commemorate the independence of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Communities throughout the United States join in the observance through parades, exhibits, ceremonies, and more to recognize the impact of Hispanic and Latino Americans on our country's history, culture, and achievements.

Across Texas, AARP is excited to be part of this nationwide celebration. Statewide, our line-up includes many events, both in-person and virtual. You can learn to prepare authentic dishes from various Latin American countries and bring the taste of Hispanic culture into your kitchen. We'll also delve into the local folklores of several Latin American nations to explore the rich tapestry of traditional stories passed down through generations. There will be arts and crafts workshops to showcase the creativity of Hispanic arts, giving you a chance to learn traditional art forms. There’s more planned for our month-long celebration, so check our Texas AARP Hispanic Heritage Month event page frequently for new events at www.aarp.org/hispanicheritagetx

These events are an opportunity to celebrate and learn more about Hispanic culture, and to share in the experiences that contribute to the fabric of our society. We hope to see you there as we appreciate, learn, and grow through exploring Hispanic heritage.
