Remembering Together: AARP San Antonio’s 2025 Día de los Muertos Week

Posted on 11/10/25

This Día de los Muertos, AARP San Antonio and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center invited the community to come together for a week of events filled with creativity, culture, and remembrance. Each one offered a special way to honor loved ones and celebrate the traditions that make this time of year so meaningful. Read our recap below, then scroll down to see our video reel, on these three events, too!

The celebration began Tuesday, October 28, with a Sugar Skull Workshop at the Guadalupe Latino Bookstore, where attendees learned about the history behind the colorful calaveras and designed their own to take home. Laughter, conversation, and bright splashes of color filled the room as participants shared stories of the people they were remembering.

Wednesday, October 29, the Altar-Making Workshop brought neighbors together to learn the art of building an ofrenda. The Community Altar quickly filled with photos, candles, and marigolds — a shared tribute to the lives and memories that continue to inspire us. Participants also decorated picture frames to use on their own altars.

The series concluded Sunday, November 2, with La Vida de los Muertos at Plaza Guadalupe, an outdoor performance featuring mariachi music, folklórico performances, and heartfelt storytelling. Surrounded by the sounds and sights of tradition, guests celebrated life, legacy and community.

Through these moments of connection and creativity, AARP San Antonio and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center reminded us that Día de los Muertos is not just about remembering those we’ve lost — it’s about celebrating the life and love that continues to unite us all.
