Protecting Oklahoma Nursing Home Residents

A series of state laws aimed at protecting patients and improving the quality of care in nursing homes took effect on Nov. 1.

The measures—which passed this year with AARP Oklahoma’s support—eliminate a nursing home’s ability to use antipsychotic drugs as chemical restraints, create new programs to present patients with their long-term health care options, and tie nursing home reimbursement rates to the quality of care.

Together, they’re known as the AARP Nursing Home Care Plan.

AARP members who want to further improve nursing home care in Oklahoma can volunteer to be a legislative advocate.
