Programs Help with Independent Living

CAREGIVING

AARP Arkansas knows that many older people want to live in their homes for as long as possible.

The state has programs to help people avoid nursing facilities, such as ARChoices in Homecare, which provides medical and support services for adults eligible for nursing home payments. Funded by Medicaid, the program offers services like adult day care, meals and respite care.

Initiatives such as Arkansas Money Follows the Person, which helps state residents move from nursing homes to home- and community-based care, and IndependentChoices also make it easier for people to remain at home.

AARP Arkansas offers a guide for caregivers explaining the programs available. To receive a copy of the AARP Caregiver Guide or to report problems accessing care, email araarp@aarp.org.
