AARP strongly supports proposals that provide equitable, cost-effective, and targeted property tax relief to those most burdened by their property tax bills. As the 2023 tax season begins, thanks to AARP Pennsylvania’s efforts, more Pennsylvanians will receive help through the Commonwealth’s Property Tax Rent Rebate Program, which delivers relief for age and income eligible homeowners and renters.

When Governor Shapiro signed Act 7 of 2023 into law, it delivered the largest targeted tax cut for older adults in nearly two decades, expanding access to nearly 175,000 more Pennsylvanians and increasing the maximum rebate from $650 to $1000.

We have everything you need to know about applying for a property tax or rent rebate.

Who is eligible?
Pennsylvania renters and homeowners 65 and older, widows and widowers 50 and older, and people with disabilities who are 18 and older and have an annual income below $45,000.

How much will my rebate be?
The program provides a rebate ranging from $380 to $1000. The amount of money you will receive is based on your income.

IncomeMaximum Rebate
$0 - $8,000$1,000
$8,001 - $15,000$770
$15,001 - $18,000$460
$18,001 - $45,000$380

    PA Department of Revenue
    Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

  3. In-person: The PA Department of Revenue and other organizations are available to support you with your application. ***Update***
What is the application deadline for a 2023 property tax or rent rebate?
December 31, 2024

When will I get my rebate?
Between July 1 and September 1, but some rebates could take longer if the Department of Revenue needs to correct or verify information from the application.

What else is new in 2023?

  • The income limits will be tied to the cost of living – which means older Pennsylvanians and those with disabilities will not lose out on their rebates through, for example, a simple Social Security cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA).
  • To prevent fraud, first-time applicants need to provide additional documentation which are described beginning on page 4 of the rebate application.
  • There is a Spanish online application.
