Orlisa Johnson Named 2023 Andrus Award Winner for AARP Louisiana
AARP is excited to announce Shreveport resident Orlisa Johnson as the recipient of the 2023 AARP Louisiana Andrus Award for Community Service. This accolade, the highest state volunteer recognition bestowed by the Association, recognizes Orlisa's outstanding commitment and valuable contributions to community service.
Orlisa Johnson's impact on her community embodies AARP's vision and mission, inspiring fellow volunteers and creating a positive ripple effect. Following a distinguished career in education and the Air Force Reserve, Orlisa redirected her passion towards enriching the lives of others. Her commitment is exemplified by the preparation of hot meals for seniors, extending generosity to retired military members, and active involvement in her local community center, where she volunteers for BINGO games and ensures the well-being of seniors.
As a proud member of the Women Veterans of ArkLaTex, Orlisa engages in impactful initiatives, such as contributing to Christmas donations for homeless military families. Her pivotal role as the financial secretary at the Leonard C. Barnes Post 450 involves organizing Christmas and Thanksgiving events, providing Christmas cards to families, and contributing to scholarships for graduating seniors in the ROTC. Her selfless service extends to chauffeuring seniors to medical appointments, volunteering with a Girl Scout Troop, and imparting valuable life skills.

Orlisa was recognized at a ceremony on December 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vet Center, located in the Shreve City Shopping Center at 1255 Shreveport Barksdale Highway, Shreveport 71105.
AARP Louisiana donated $1,000 on behalf of Orlisa to support the Women Veterans of ArkLaTex—an organization dedicated to honoring and aiding women Veterans who have served and continue to serve our country.
Recipients across the nation were selected for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members, improve their communities, and inspire others to volunteer.
