AARP Colorado is seeking nominations for its annual volunteer awards. Please nominate someone who makes a difference in your community.

At this time, AARP recognizes that the COVID-19 pandemic has remarkably changed our lives. We encourage the nomination of those who have volunteered valiantly to help the 50 plus during the pandemic. We also want the efforts of the many volunteers who have diligently lent themselves, their talents and their abilities to improve the lives of older Coloradans before and during this crisis, to be recognized.

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and we want to celebrate them all. Help us to do that and nominate a volunteer.

The nominating categories are:

The Andrus Award for Community Service, the association's most prestigious volunteer tribute recognizes outstanding individuals age 50 and older who are sharing their experience, talents and skills to enrich the lives of others.

Nominees for the AARP State Andrus Award for Community Service must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Nominees must be 50 or older.
  • The achievements, accomplishments or service on which nominations are based must have been performed on a volunteer basis, without pay. AmeriCorps VISTA and Senior Corps Programs’ volunteers (Senior Companions, Foster Grandparents, RSVP, and Senior Demonstration Programs) are eligible.
  • The achievements, accomplishments or service on which the nominations are based must reflect AARP's vision and purpose (see below).
  • The achievements, accomplishments or service on which the nominations are based must be replicable and inspire others to serve.
  • Couples or partners who perform service together are eligible; however, teams are not.
  • The recipient must live in the awarding state. This is not a posthumous award. To nominate an outstanding individual for the Andrus Award for Community Service, please click here.

Other AARP Awards

  • AARP Volunteer of the Year Award: This award goes to a volunteer or volunteer team who has helped the Association achieve its strategic goals in Colorado.
  • AARP Lifetime Achievement Award: This award is given to an individual who has given freely of his/her personal time over a period of many years to one or more AARP campaigns, activities, or volunteer positions. This is an individual who is a recognized leader among AARP volunteers and is a true role model of successful community service.
  • AARP Community Service Award: This award goes to volunteers who have made extraordinary contributions to their local community, or to the state at large, in reaching AARP’s goal of community service, have positively affected the lives of many people in their community or the state, and have made their community or the state a better place to live.
  • AARP Program/Strategic Priority Awards: These awards are intended to recognize volunteers who have truly given “above and beyond” and who have had a major impact on, or contribution to, our members and/or the public.
  • AARP Advocate of the Year award: This award is given to the Advocacy Volunteer who has worked with AARP to pass both state and federal legislation important to the 50 plus population. This individual has shown leadership which is illustrated through measurable results and has clearly gone beyond the call of his or her position.
  • Business Awards: These awards are reserved for businesses, large and small, which have made significant contributions toward an AARP-led effort or activity; or who have made their own important contribution to AARP members or mid-life and older Coloradans.
  • Community Partner Awards: These awards recognize valuable contributions or partnerships that have made a positive impact of the community or the state.
