Nominate a Volunteer for the “2020 Andrus Award for Community Service” by July 15

Recognize Those Who Make a Powerful Difference in their Community

AARP Washington is now accepting nominations for its 2020 Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors Washingtonians 50 and better who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.

Do you know a volunteer, over the age of 50, who’s made a significant impact on your neighborhood? Now’s your chance to get them recognized – nominate that volunteer superstar for AARP’s most prestigious community service award.

“AARP is excited to shine a light on 50+ Washingtonians who are using what they’ve learned in life to make a difference in the lives around them,” said Doug Shadel, AARP Washington State Director.

AARP Washington will be accepting nominations until July 15, 2020, and the winner will receive the opportunity to donate $2,000 to an eligible non-profit of his or her choosing.

Who is eligible?

AARP Washington Andrus Award for Community Service nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Nominee must be 50 years or older.
  • The achievements, accomplishments, or service on which the nomination is based must have been performed on a volunteer basis, without pay.
  • The achievements, accomplishments, or service on which the nomination is based must reflect AARP’s vision and mission.
  • Married couples or domestic partners who perform service together are also eligible; however, teams are not eligible.
  • The recipient must live in the awarding state.
  • This is not a posthumous award.

Online nomination forms are available on the web or you can call AARP Washington at 1-866-277-7457 to have a paper nomination form mailed to you.

Nominations will be evaluated based on how the volunteer’s work has improved the community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.
