The NC House of Representatives is considering Senate Bill 559, which if passed, will raise your electric utility bill for the next five years and could include a new fixed charge for up to 30 years.
AARP North Carolina is very much opposed to this bill because it would allow NC Public Electric Utilities to go five years without regular public hearings and rate and spending reviews by the NC Utilities Commission. Yes, that’s right five years.
We need to act quickly because the bill has already passed the Senate without adequate debate. If we don’t raise our concerns, it could move quickly through the House.
As energy consumers, it makes no sense for us to give up our ability to make sure that our electric rates are fair and reasonable.
