New York: Swing Into Dance With Free Classes for All Ability Levels

Posted on 09/30/22 by The AARP Bulletin

Dance isn’t only timeless, it’s also ageless.

A series of virtual classes, designed by the School of the Arts at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, is offered specifically for dancers 50-plus.

You can participate in the Ageless Dancer Virtual Series: Swinging Jazz in the privacy of your home—judgment free.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Ageless Dancer series for a second run,” says Robyn Haberman, AARP New York associate state director. Instructor Johnny Martinez has a teaching style suited for all ages and ability levels.

Martinez, a dancer and musical theater performer, has appeared in national and European tours of West Side Story, Damn Yankees and Fiddler on the Roof. He is co-director of Tango Fusion Dance Company, in Saratoga Springs.

The Ageless Dancer classes are designed to improve balance, stability and coordination.

All sessions begin with a guided warm-up and teach beginner-level choreography in a swing-inspired jazz dance style.

The free classes will be streamed live on Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays, Oct. 21 and 28, and Nov. 4 and 18.
