New Law Allows Nebraska Caregivers to Tap Unemployment Benefits

Posted on 09/30/21 by The AARP Bulletin

A new state law, backed by AARP Nebraska, allows workers who leave their jobs to care for a relative to claim unemployment benefits.

The law, which took effect Aug. 28, adds caring for a family member with a serious health condition to the list of “good cause” reasons to leave employment.

Workers who voluntarily leave a job to care for a family member will be able to collect unemployment benefits when they are ready to seek a new job and if they meet all other requirements.
