New Jersey Gubernatorial Candidates Share Where They Stand on Issues that Count for the 50+
AARP New Jersey Releases 2021 Video Voter Guide
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (Oct. 7, 2021) – AARP New Jersey released its 2021 Video Voter Guide today, featuring gubernatorial candidates, Jack Ciattarelli (R) and Governor Phil Murphy (D). Each candidate answered the same four questions on issues that count to older New Jerseyans, including lowering prescription drug prices, helping residents stay in their homes as they age, enhancing retirement security, and making the state a better place to grow older. AARP has a proud, 35-year history of non-partisan voter engagement. We do not endorse candidates or make candidate/campaign contributions; we do, however, inform AARP members and the public on where candidates stand on issues that count to 50+ Americans.
The candidates for governor had equal time to answer each of the four questions posed to them by AARP New Jersey state director, Stephanie Hunsinger.
According to a survey released yesterday from Fairleigh Dickinson University, in partnership with AARP, two out of three New Jersey voters 50+ say they are concerned about affording their prescription medications in the future. When asked about lowering prescription drug costs, Murphy said he was open-minded to the idea of a New Jersey Prescription Drug Affordability Board, and Ciattarelli shared his support for allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices.
Both candidates expressed their support of New Jersey’s Secure Choice program, a public-private partnership that will create a voluntary and portable retirement savings option for around 1.7 million private-sector New Jerseyans who currently do not have a way to save for retirement at work.
Both candidates also voiced their desire to uphold New Jersey’s commitment to become a more age-friendly state.
