New Data on Caregiving in New Hampshire
A new AARP Public Policy Institute report shows that 168,000 New Hampshire residents provide unpaid care—valued at $2.8 billion—to an adult relative or friend.
“Family caregivers play a vital role in New Hampshire’s health care system, whether they care for someone at home, coordinate home health care or help care for someone who lives in a nursing home,” says Christina FitzPatrick, AARP New Hampshire’s state director.
Ailing parents, spouses, siblings and friends often need help with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, cooking, paying bills and taking medications. Family caregivers often handle all those tasks, while providing emotional support.
