New AARP Louisiana State President Sets Sights on Volunteer Recruitment

Posted on 05/31/23 by The AARP Bulletin

Longtime AARP volunteer Alfred Mason has become AARP Louisiana’s new leader.

A Darrow resident, Mason took over in January as state president, the organization’s top volunteer role. He’ll lead AARP Louisiana’s Executive Council, helping to set AARP’s priorities. He replaced Bobby G. Savoie.

Mason, 83, has a long history with AARP. Both he and his wife, Natalie, served as presidents of their local chapter. “Most people know us as a team,” Mason says, adding that his wife of 65 years will work with him in the new job as well.

In 2021, the Masons won the Andrus Award for Community Service, AARP Louisiana’s highest volunteer honor. Mason has worked with the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline and been a speaker for AARP.

His first mission? Recruit more volunteers. “Our major focus is getting people involved,” he says. Join Mason’s team by visiting aarp.org/la.
