Montana Caregiver Act Offers Needed Support

Posted on 02/28/21 by The AARP Bulletin

The state’s 114,000 unpaid family caregivers are often stressed by the responsibilities of caring for a loved one.

The Montana Caregiver Act can help, providing support when patients return home after hospital stays. The 2017 law requires hospitals to notify caregivers when their patients are released and to instruct them on medication management and other, sometimes-complex medical follow-up at home.

AARP Montana realizes that many caregivers are unaware of this support and is raising awareness. Caregivers can download a Caregiver Act wallet card, obtain a free “Prepare to Care Guide” and “Military Caregiving Guide,” and find information on respite care.
