Mat-Su Memorial Day wreath-laying will happen; 11 a.m. service cancelled

Posted on 05/22/20

In advance of Memorial Day, we wanted to alert you to changes to Mat-Su events listed in this month's AARP Bulletin. The 11 a.m. service on May 25 that had been planned at the Aurora Cemetery has been cancelled, according to AMVETS Post 9.

The Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Veterans Wall of Honor on Wasilla-Fishook Road is still on, with adjustments to promote safety during the pandemic. There will be bleachers for those who choose to sit there; attendees are also welcome to listen to the event from inside their cars on 89.7 FM, Big Cabbage Radio, if all goes according to plan.

The station also has transmitters in Sutton and Chickaloon, 87.5, and Glacier View, 91.5, and will be streaming live online at radiofreepalmer.org. That will be where anyone who would like to listen to the event later can find it as a podcast.

For additional details about the ceremony, call AMVETS Post 9, 907-376-2999.

AARP Alaska honors our nation’s fallen service members, this Memorial Day and always, and the loss of their family members.
