Many Delawareans Support Tax Credits for Family Caregivers

Posted on 11/01/25 by AARP Bulletin

More than 60 percent of surveyed Delaware residents over 45 say they are currently providing unpaid care to a family member or friend or have done so in the past, according to a recent AARP poll.

An overwhelming majority — 85 percent — say they would support a tax credit for family caregivers to help offset caregiving-related expenses.

Eighty-five percent also say they want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

But 29 percent say they don’t have affordable housing options that are within walking distance to shopping or services.

AARP will use the results of the survey to bolster advocacy efforts on behalf of older Delawareans, says Wendell Alfred, AARP Delaware state president.
