Posted on 02/06/24

Get advice on managing the high cost of caregiving and maintaining your own financial security at free in-person and telephone seminars Feb. 22nd through Feb. 24th with AARP Caregiving Expert Amy Goyer.

Goyer will share tips, gained from decades of experience as a family caregiver, to help you manage paperwork, navigate legal and insurance issues, and identify resources and technology to help you with the financial pressures of caring for a loved one. You’ll also learn about proposed state and federal legislation to create a caregiver tax credit and paid family leave.

“There are an estimated 154,000 family caregivers in Hawai`i who provide care to loved ones valued at $2.6 billion if they were paid,” said Keali`i Lopez, AARP Hawai`i State Director.”The average family caregiver spends about 20 percent of their income on transportation, medicine, food, respite care and other costs of caregiving. That ads up to more than $7,000 annually. We think family caregivers do so much for others and they deserve some help with managing the cost of caregiving and that’s why we are holding these free events and lobbying Congress and the Legislature for support for caregivers.”
