Kansas City is an awesome place to live.  Our city has a lot going for it and Kanas City is working to be even better.  You can help by sharing your ideas, information, and opinions.  AARP in Kansas City wants your voice to be heard as Kansas City updates the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

What’s a Comprehensive Plan?

A comprehensive plan in based on community input and values and provides guidance to city leaders on issues related to property use, transportation, housing and other important topics that impact our neighborhoods.  Kansas City’s new plan will impact the city for the next 20 years.  Raising your voice today will impact decisions for years to come.

What’s AARP Got to Do With It?

AARP Livable Communities supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities and rural areas to be great places for people of all ages. We believe that communities should provide safe, walkable streets; age-friendly housing and transportation options; access to needed services; and opportunities for residents of all ages to participate in community life.  By 2030, there will be about 73 million Americans age 65 or older. At that point, fully one in five Americans will be older than 65. By 2034, the United States will — for the first time ever — be a country comprised of more older adults than of children.

Okay, How do I Participate?

You can participate by being informed or taking a survey or even sitting in on a meeting.  Just go to playbook.kcmo.gov to sign up for a meeting, read about the comprehensive plan, or take a survey.

I Don’t Have Time for All That

If you’re short on time, just take a quick survey—on whatever topic you like.  If you go to the Kansas City Playbook’s ‘Online Activities’ page you can scroll down and pick a survey on everything from equity in transportation to parks to natural amenities.  Take as many surveys as you like.  Your opinion is important and will help inform how our city makes decisions on things that impact us all.  Let’s make Kansas City even more livable.
