AARP Iowa relies on volunteers to be the boots on the ground across the state, telling lawmakers about legislation and policy concerns.
To advocate for topics important to older Iowans, AARP Iowa is seeking to recruit at least one volunteer in each of the state’s 50 Senate districts and 100 House districts.
Whether it’s attending a virtual meeting or legislative forum with local representatives, writing a letter to the editor, sending a note to your local legislator or telling a personal story about high prescription-drug costs, Iowans can participate in advocacy in many ways.
Previous advocacy, lobbying or government experience is not necessary. What matters is the desire to influence change and make a difference locally. Training is provided to all volunteers.
Volunteers are also needed for Iowa’s four congressional districts, to focus attention on federal issues such as Social Security, Medicare and lower drug costs.
Those interested in getting involved can email ia@aarp.org.
