Do you have a passion for civic engagement? Consider becoming a volunteer for AARP Arizona’s annual Day at the Legislature luncheon at the State Capitol.

The event will be held Tuesday, April 9, on the Senate Lawn, at 1700 W. Washington St. in Phoenix, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

AARP Arizona’s ambitious policy agenda this year includes protections for retirement income, long-term and community-based health care support, tax-credit assistance for family caregivers, protections from financial scams, and funding for programs that give caregivers a respite from their responsibilities.

Dana Kennedy, AARP Arizona state director, and Steve Jennings, advocacy director, will be on hand to lead a team of experts and volunteer advocates during the event. It’s also a chance to meet lawmakers and their staffs.

Jennings said that AARP is working hard to encourage Arizonans to save more for retirement. The organization supports a legislative “work and save” proposal to create a website that would connect employers and workers with savings programs. He noted that 50 percent of Arizonans do not have workplace savings options.

If you’d like to participate in the luncheon, register at aarpaz.org. To learn more, call 866-389-5649 or email azaarp@aarp.org.
