Posted on 05/12/21

AARP Montana is pleased to sponsor the Stories of Honor newspaper series in partnership with the Helena Independent Record, the Montana Standard, The Billings Gazette and The Missoulian. From Memorial Day through Veterans Day, a different story will be featured in each market each week – a total of approximately 104 different Stories of Honor will be featured over the course of the year.

To launch the 2021 newspaper series, AARP Montana is holding a live tele-town hall on May 26 at 10 AM. This event will feature the following panelists:

  • David McCumber, Editor of the Billings Gazette and the Montana Standard
  • Curt Synness, Independent Record Feature Story Writer
  • Tim Summers, AARP Montana State Director, event host
  • Troy Shockley, News Director for Montana Radio Company, event moderator

On Wednesday, May 26, AARP Montana will begin calling out to Montana members for this tele-town hall around 10:00 a.m.

There are three additional ways to participate in the live event:

Those unable to join the tele-town hall on May 26, can listen to the recorded call on AARP Montana’s Facebook page or here: https://vekeo.com/aarpmontana.

Lee Montana news organizations created the Stories of Honor series to feature profiles of veterans and military members from across the state in order to inform readers about the service and bravery of the heroes who have served, or are currently serving, our country.

Some of the most powerful stories come from those who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Across the state, more than 85,480 veterans and another 8,900 active, reserve and civilian military members live in Montana, according to the Census Bureau. That is a huge population of local heroes worth honoring and celebrating!
