Linda Bowden Named AARP Vermont State President

Linda Bowden of Burlington has been has been appointed State President of AARP Vermont, a volunteer position working closely with both staff and volunteers throughout the state to help AARP achieve its mission in Vermont. Her responsibilities include serving as a volunteer spokesperson, chairing the AARP Vermont Advisory Council, building networks and community partnerships, and recruiting volunteers.

“Linda has distinguished herself as both a dedicated volunteer who not only embraces the mission of the organization and the state office, but takes the initiative to push above and beyond what is expected of her. AARP Vermont is very fortunate to have a leader of Linda’s caliber who is wholly committed to making our community better for all, and not afraid to do the tough work to bring about positive change,” said Greg Marchildon, AARP Vermont state director. “Linda is full of great ideas and is committed to seeing them through. We all look forward to continuing to work with her in this new role.”

Bowden was the winner of the 2018 Andrus Award for community service – the organization’s most prestigious honor for her work in the community. She is a member the AARP Livable Communities Team and on the AARP Vermont Advisory Council among other things. She took on the role of managing and directing monthly Coffee Talk meetings with members of the Burlington community, was a Community Grants Review Team Member, was the face of AARP on Burlington’s bike share program launch and has taken the lead on a number of other state office initiatives. She brings many years of museum experience as an educator, guest services manager, Lifelong Learning and Program Coordinator/Educator, and guest service manager.
