Let's get ready to cook

Posted on 11/18/20 by Evelin De La Rosa

The holidays are right around the corner, and you know what that means, family time and good home cooking. "Now we're cooking with AARP" is our way of bringing families together.  Whether you'll be making your famous turkey stuffing, pecan pie, tamales, or mashed potatoes, we want you to share your experience.  At AARP, we love to see multi-generational projects flourish, which is why we want to see what you're cooking for the holidays.

Food can be more than just nutrition; it also brings generations together. So we're asking that next time you head to the kitchen with your grandchild, child, parent, significant other, or friend, take your phone with you and record your cooking process. We want to learn about your famous holiday recipes.

Here are a few video submissions from our local community in Texas.

Evelin De La Rosa and her mother, Maria, from Houston, Texas, kicked off our series with three easy Mexican recipes with ingredients all from their pantry. The first dish they created was their delicious chicken flautas and veggie soup. A recipe that sounds difficult but is doable, all with simple ingredients.

If you're interested in making a new dessert, Jogina Jimenez, her daughter Laurissa, and granddaughter Rylee, from Los Fresnos, Texas,  show us now to make churro cheesecake. This simple, quick dish requires minimal ingredients, and it's easy.

Our very own AARP volunteer, Jackie Abert, shares her family's favorite recipe, peanut butter cookies. Take a look at how she takes us through the process.

More videos

Our series does not stop here; now, we want to see you cooking! Record your cooking video from start to finish, with you narrating us along the way. Once done email us your video to houston@aarp.org and let us share your experience with everyone. All we ask is that you keep it to about 3 minutes.

Once we get your video, we will add music and identify you in the piece too. Don't forget to tell us your name, where you are from and what you're cooking on camera.
