Largest Latino Festival in Midwest Returns to Chicago

Posted on 06/30/18 by TheAARPBulletin, AARP Blog Author

Mother Nature will hopefully provide the sun, and AARP in Chicago and other organizations promise to create a fun, family-friendly four days in the Pilsen neighborhood July 26-29.

AARP is participating in the 2018 Fiesta del Sol—which translates to “Festival of the Sun”—on Cermak Road from Ashland Avenue to Morgan Street. The event is part of the AARP Block Party series.

Dubbed the largest Latino festival in the Midwest, the event includes live entertainment, local art, a variety of food, carnival rides, a children’s area, educational resources for parents and youth, soccer games and more.

“For as long as I can remember, Fiesta del Sol has been the centerpiece of Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood summer festivals and by far its largest,” said Álvaro R. Obregón, AARP Illinois associate state director. “Growing up, it was the place to be.

“I’m excited to welcome AARP members who I know will have fun interacting at the AARP Block Party, as well as enjoying the great food and music.”

Fiesta del Sol is the primary fundraiser for the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, which uses the money for its scholarship program and year-round community organizing efforts.
