Family caregivers and their loved ones can download a free card with information about their rights under the new Iowa CARE Act.
The law, which took effect July 1, requires hospitals to ask patients if they want to designate a family caregiver, to inform that person when the patient is to be discharged and to give the caregiver instructions on how to perform any necessary medical tasks at home.
The cards can fit in wallets, next to a health insurance card, to provide quick access to the important information that family members need to know about the Iowa CARE Act.
Download the card at aarp.org/IACareAct2019.
