Join the AARP Montana NeighborWalk Group!

Posted on 04/16/21

Are you going a little stir-crazy after winter…..and our continued need for social distancing?

Would you like a little encouragement and a nudge to begin….or continue a walking routine?

It can be hard to get motivated to incorporate regular exercise or movement into our schedules. Maybe you're hesitant about visiting your local gym—many of us are! Maybe joint pain or arthritis have prevented you from walking regularly.

We have a solution, you can join our NeighborWalk group!

AARP Montana offers a fun and safe way to establish a walking habit and to share the experience with others during a weekly video chat. Even if you already walk regularly, it'll be fun to join this group and connect “virtually” with others in our community. You’ll walk alone, but you won’t be alone.

Use the “register here” buttons below to register for each walking group. You will receive your free "Walk With Ease Participant Guidebook" and video chat log-in information.

The 6-week AARP Montana NeighborWalk Program will launch on May 11 and is designed for people of all ages and all abilities who are interested in walking.

The program is based on the Arthritis Foundation’s national Walk With Ease Program. You’ll receive the Walk With Ease Participant Guidebook as a NeighborWalk participant. The guidebook, and our weekly video chats provide useful information and tips about developing an individual walking plan.

Participants are encouraged to incorporate independent, self-paced walks 3-times a week. It doesn’t matter how far you walk. If you’re a beginner, you’ll start your walks for as long as you’re personally comfortable and build up to 30 minutes a day, 3-times each week by the end of the program. If you’re more fit when we begin, the sky’s the limit. Whatever your schedule and stamina will support.

The weekly video chat is led by AARP volunteers each Tuesday at 2PM. Participants will walk independently and meet up on Tuesdays to discuss their progress. Participants will also receive useful info from the Arthritis Foundation, share your experiences with others, and connect socially. This program offers social distancing, social engagement….and a whole lot of fun.

At AARP Montana, we think that a healthy lifestyle can help us all to deal with the daily stress of living.
