AARP Kentucky is seeking new grassroots activists for its Capital Action Team to advocate at the state General Assembly for policies important to older Kentuckians.
On Thursday, February 23, AARP Lobby Day in the Capitol will bring dozens of volunteers to Frankfort for committee hearings and one-on-one meetings with lawmakers. AARP’s legislative priorities include curbing prescription drug prices and supporting family caregivers, including grandparents who are raising grandchildren.
Volunteers are also needed for outreach to U.S. representatives in Kentucky’s six congressional districts, helping to focus attention on federal issues such as Social Security and Medicare. No previous advocacy experience is required; AARP Kentucky provides training. For more information, go to aarp.org/ky.

AARP Kentucky is offering two “How To” grassroots (virtual) training sessions to prepare volunteers, activists and chapter members on priority legislative issues, scheduling meetings with lawmakers, providing issue talking points, and how to build relationships with lawmakers. Save the dates: Session One: February 9 at 10:00 a.m. ET and Session Two: February 16 at 7:00 p.m. ET (attend one or both!).
