Join AARP Tampa Bay for its 4th Annual Open Streets St. Pete
Since 2016, AARP Tampa Bay has worked with other community stakeholders for its annual Open Streets festival with the goal of increasing awareness that local urban areas need to be safer and more walkable for pedestrians as well as user-friendly to all non-motorized modes of transportation. These efforts are part of AARP’s age-friendly initiative to make cities more accessible not only for pedestrians but also for cyclists, joggers and dog-walkers of all ages and abilities.
“Our goal is to make where we live better each year by keeping the conversation going about what enhances our lives,” said Michelle Cyr, associate state director for outreach and advocacy for AARP Tampa Bay. “We do this by advocating and problem-solving with residents to identify needs and solutions that make our city easier to navigate.”
This work isn’t for a one-time only event. Throughout the year, the AARP Tampa Bay team joins a network of partners with goals that support the many age-friendly initiative pillars. Ultimately, the team seeks ways to entice people to more closely connect with their community while increasing their transportation options to safely get around.
