A Women’s History Month Celebration – Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus: It’s Never Too Late to Make a Difference (March 7 @ Noon – 1 p.m. PT | Virtual)
Celebrate Women's History Month by joining us for a special virtual presentation on the life and legacy of Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who advocated for health care and security for older Americans and who founded AARP in 1958 while in her mid-60’s. AARP historian Lily Liu will examine the wisdom of Dr. Andrus and the history of how she founded AARP and became a leader in the aging revolution, determined to help all Americans understand that “age is not a defeat but a victory; not a punishment but a privilege."  Learn more and register HERE. Power Your Savings with AARP: What’s Your Home Energy Score (March 13 @ Noon – 1 p.m. PT | Virtual)
Getting a Home Energy Score can be the first step to lower your energy costs and increase the comfort of your home. Join us for a discussion with the U.S. Department of Energy and energy experts to learn what a Home Energy Score is, how it works, and local rebates available in the Bay Area towards home energy updates that may help lower your utility bills. Prepare for Caregiving with AARP’s Rachel Stone (March 15 @ Noon – 1 p.m. PT | Virtual)
Caring for a loved one is one of the most important roles you will play. No matter where you are in the journey of family caregiving – just beginning to anticipate a need, helping to coordinate a big move, or taking care of a family member full-time – having a good framework to guide both you and your loved one will make the process easier. During this session, AARP California’s Rachel Stone will share a framework to help you make plans to care for friends, family members, or loved ones. Learn more and register HERE. Access to Technology for Older Adults in Santa Clara County (March 29 @ Noon – 1 p.m. PT | Virtual)
Join Ryan Kawamoto, Manager at Senior Planet/Older Adult Technology, an affiliate of AARP, for a conversation on what resources are available in Santa Clara County for older adults who are seeking to be connected online. From getting access to the internet and securing a device, how to navigate online safely and use basic apps and programs, Kawamoto will explain eligibility and the process to get the assistance you need. AARP Community Challenge Grant
AARP invites you to submit applications for tangible improvement projects that can help YOUR community become more livable for all residents, especially those 50 and older. Applications are being accepted through March 6, 2024, 5:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. PT for grants to improve public places; housing; transportation; community resilience; digital connections; and community health and economic empowerment across three funding opportunities – Flagship Grants, Demonstration Grants and Capacity-Building Microgrants. Since 2017, AARP has invested $16.4 million through 1,370 projects across all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
