Thank you!

Earlier this year, Dominion Energy requested a nearly 8 percent rate increase, including a jump in the fixed charge you pay every month just for being a customer.

But AARP South Carolina and Dominion customers raised concerns about the impact higher rates would have on their families—and our voices were heard. The rate case was delayed six months during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AARP SC petitioned the Public Service Commission to enact this delay so that all parties could come to the table. The delay froze rates, provided an opportunity for thoughtful negotiations—which AARP participated in on behalf of ratepayers—and a settlement that protects consumers from unreasonable rate increases.

In the end, the average household will now only pay $1.81 more per month, and the fixed charge for residential customers remains under $10. Dominion is also prohibited from asking for a rate increase until 2024.

This is a victory for South Carolina ratepayers and their families, many of whom struggle to pay their electric bills while still affording necessities like food and medicine. But rest assured—AARP South Carolina will never stop fighting for you.
