How to Keep a Watch on Fraud

Posted on 03/31/23 by The AARP Bulletin

Nearly 26,000 fraud and other reports were filed by Mississippi consumers in 2022, and $22.9 million was lost to fraud, according to Federal Trade Commission data.

AARP Mississippi urges residents to protect themselves by accessing the AARP Fraud Watch Network. It provides insights, alerts and resources about new scams, and it offers help for those who have been victimized.

The AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline (877-908-3360) is free and available to anyone. According to the FBI, older Americans are the target of fraud attempts because they are often financially stable and have good credit — making them attractive to scammers.
