Houston Musical Mural Series Features Free Live Performances

Posted on 03/01/21 by Yusuf Shafi

In late May and early June, AARP in Houston will host a musical mural series titled Vibrant Vibes. The project aims to breathe life into local spaces and use musical performances to showcase murals. Musical guests will perform a variety of music, from lyrical singing to pop music. The Vibrant Vibes series is part of an AARP campaign aimed at making community spaces age-friendly.

According to a 2020 AARP survey, adults who engage with music describe their quality of life and happiness as excellent or very good – a much higher percentage when compared to their non-music listening peers. Listening to music passively, singing songs, and attending concerts can yield positive health benefits such as stronger memory retention.

By allowing participants to explore Houston murals, the musical series aims to combine the benefits of music with community engagement to foster an inclusive and diverse living space. AARP is inviting anyone to attend and experience the brilliant art the Bayou city has to offer.

The Tuesday, May 25 event will feature Latin Jazz Artist Raquel Cepeda. The June 1 show will feature a special guest opera singer, and the final June 8 event will feature musical guest Zaira Gutierrez.
