Museo de las Americas, the premier Latin American Art Museum of the Rocky Mountain region, is hosting Altar’d Continuum: Resistance and Empowerment In Sacred Spaces through Feb 1, 2020, among other exciting things happening at Museo.

The exhibition, guest curated by Danielle N. Cunningham and Mary Grace Bernard, emphasizes the altar as both a physical non-physical space for personalized ritual exchange between humans and the divine. The themes range from mainstream and traditional religious practices to LGBTQ.

Among the artists is Judy Miranda, a volunteer of El Comité, AARP Colorado’s Latino advisory group. Miranda works in a variety of mediums, including sculpture, paint and photography.

“We are very proud of Judy,” said Roberto Rey, AARP Colorado director of multicultural outreach. “Her creativity and talent is a great asset to AARP.”

In addition to Miranda, featured artists include Sierra Montoya Barela, Alma Trevizo, Ester Hernandez, Jolene Yazzie, Yrenia Cervantez, Rose B. Simpson, Grace Gutierrez, Louis Trujillo, Jude Sanchez, Eileen Richardson, as well as works from the estate of Ana Mendieta.

In Addition, Museo de las Americas recently received the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) Community ACTS Fund, which will support renovations at Museo, including new pre-Columbian gallery space and offices.

Construction runs through Dec. 14, 2019 and during this time, Museo is offering a 50 percent discount off the price of admission. For more information, call 303-571-4401.
