Grants Make 3 Alabama Towns More Livable

Posted on 11/30/19 by The AARP Bulletin

The AARP Community Challenge program awarded three quick-action grants for projects designed to make localities in the state more livable for residents of all ages:

In Camden, the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center, an institution dedicated to promoting local artists, used its funds for a Sharing Our Stories One Bench at a Time project. Ten mosaic benches were placed in the historic downtown.

A grant to the South Huntsville Main Business Association enabled local artists to design, produce and install bike racks with the South Huntsville compass logo.

In Wetumpka, a grant helped revive an alleyway with an existing 90-foot mural displaying the community’s history, adding benches, lighting, movable furniture and entertainment space.
