Grants Fund Park Updates, App Education

Posted on 11/30/18

Two “quick action” projects in Rhode Island have been completed, thanks to Community Challenge grants.

At biweekly sessions, AgeFriendly Rhode Island has educated residents on how to install smartphone apps and use ride-sourcing services. In Central Avenue Park in East Providence, the city installed five park benches and game tables and replaced the tops and benches of two picnic tables.

Both projects, among 129 nationwide to receive the AARP grants this year, were completed in November.

“We are confident that the grants will improve the lives of many Rhode Islanders,” said Kathleen Connell, state director of AARP Rhode Island.

In their second year as part of the Livable Communities initiative, the national grants aim to increase transportation or housing options and support vibrant public spaces.
