Grants Boost Waikiki Projects, Bikeshare Program

Posted on 11/30/19 by The AARP Bulletin

Waikiki improvement projects and a Kailua-Kona bikeshare program have earned 2019 AARP Community Challenge grants.

The winners and projects include the Rotary Club of Honolulu, to provide seating for its new pocket park amid Waikiki high-rises; Waikiki Community Center, for landscaping and culturally themed designs on utility boxes; and to Age-Friendly Honolulu and Kapi’olani Community College, for the Walk Safe Waikiki public-awareness project.

Also, Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii will use a grant to support a community health program that encourages bicycling by offering reduced rates from Kona Bikeshare.
