Get Moving With AARP Arizona's 'Passport to Healthy Living'

Posted on 03/31/20 by James E. Garcia

People who stay physically and mentally active tend to live longer, healthier lives.

That simple concept inspired AARP in Phoenix to launch its free Passport to Healthy Living program this year. Activities run the gamut from hiking and biking to exercising in parks.

Participants earn stamps for their passports, and those who collect at least four can celebrate their efforts at AARP’s Phoenix in Motion Fitness Fiesta scheduled for December.

Given the uncertainty around the COVID-19 outbreak, events are currently canceled. But once the immediate crisis is under control and people are able to gather together again, AARP in Phoenix encourages all to participate in Passport to Fitness activities.

The program includes dozens of events throughout the year, including the FitPHX Fall into Fitness concert series, held on certain Tuesdays, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Margaret T. Hance Park, 67 W. Culver St. For a full list, go to phoenix.gov/parks/FitPHX.

While the events feature music, the focus is on physical activity, including classes on everything from Turbo Kick and Zumba to salsa and country dancing. Passport to Healthy Living will also host 10 other events in 2020, mostly in the Phoenix region.

FitPHX is a health initiative created by the city of Phoenix and sponsored by AARP.

The passports are free to the public; AARP handed out some 3,700 at the college football Fiesta Bowl Parade in December.

For Passport to Healthy Living events information, call 877-926-8300 or go to aarp.cvent.com/PassportPHX, where you can also print a passport.
