Get Involved With LA Transportation

Posted on 04/26/18 by Joy Hepp, AARP Blog Author

While everyone is affected by transportation in Los Angeles, this issue is particularly important for our members who are experiencing changes in their mobility options, or who would like to incorporate public transportation into their daily life.

That is why we’re thrilled to share two great options for members who would like to get involved locally — travel training classes and a volunteer action team.

First, AARP members and their guests will have an exclusive opportunity to learn about L.A. Metro’s On the Move Riders Program – a program designed to educate older adults on the basics of riding public transportation – through a series of travel training workshops

These trainings will also include educational tours with hands-on practice and provide invaluable information for traveling confidently on fixed routes, and other destinations with volunteers called Travel Buddies. These older adults are experts at navigating bus and rail transit across LA County and are dedicated to providing peer to peer experiences.

Be sure to register for a class on one of the following dates:

Saturday, May 19 10am-2pm
Westside Central Region
Expo Line, Jefferson/La Cienega Station

Saturday,  June 2 10am-2pm

Second, AARP California is working with elected officials, policymakers, community leaders, planners, and local residents’ right here in Los Angeles and in communities across the state to help them become great places for people of all ages. We are putting together a volunteer action team that will be leading our advocacy efforts and opportunities to fix sidewalks and potholes in their neighborhoods, weigh in on big Metro project plans, and share the latest news about Measure M’s implementation.  Please CLICK HERE to sign up.
