AARP will sponsor three public events in Sioux Falls next month so area residents can meet with their legislators. Local news outlets have often livestreamed the legislative coffees.

The meetings will begin at 10 a.m. on three Saturdays: Feb. 6, 20 and 27.

The coronavirus pandemic may force changes to the format. The gatherings may be virtual, rather than in person, or a mix. Check for updates and locations at

AARP in Sioux Falls will follow the Legislature closely and email weekly updates to keep members informed, especially about issues relevant to people 50 and older.

“We’ll continue to work on health care issues, consumer protection and broadband in general, such as access to high-speed internet, and other issues as they arise,” said Erik Nelson, advocacy director for AARP South Dakota.

“We hope to provide a format that is accessible to everyone,” said Justin Bentaas, spokesman for the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber and the League of Women Voters of South Dakota will host the events.
