Fund Would Compensate Victims of Fraud

Posted on 01/01/24 by AARP Bulletin

AARP is urging lawmakers to create a restitution fund that would help compensate Minnesotans who lose money to fraud schemes.

Under AARP’s proposal, money for such a fund would come from civil penalty payments obtained by the state in consumer fraud enforcement cases. Excess money collected in such cases would be used to pay defrauded consumers in cases where authorities were unable to recoup money from criminals.

AARP Minnesota is encouraging residents who have been impacted by fraud to share their stories at aarp.org/MNstories.
