Thursday, November 19 at 11 am Alaska time Caregiving During Uncertain Times: Finding Support and Connection:

It can be a challenging time for family caregivers, with an evolving healthcare environment and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. That is why AARP Alaska is hosting another free virtual caregiving workshop on November 19.

Join us at 11 a.m. (AKDT) where we’ll help you through this journey by sharing tips and resources to help you and your loved one during these times.  Plus, get helpful local resources and the latest information about COVID-19.

“November is National Caregivers Month, when we set aside time to recognize caregivers and the essential support they provide to loved ones. These workshops are our way to support them with important information and resources,” AARP Alaska Director Teresa Holt said.

Today, more than one in five Americans (21.3 percent) are caregivers, having provided care to an adult or child with special needs at some time in the past 12 months. This totals an estimated 53.0 million adults in the United States, up from the estimated 43.5 million caregivers in 2015.

Whether you are a caregiver, preparing to be a caregiver or are receiving care from a loved one, you will benefit from the information in these sessions. AARP members and non-members of any age are encouraged to attend.

Technology is advancing faster than ever before and this can make anyone overwhelmed. We are surrounded by a diverse range of digital devices– whether its smartphones, tablets or home computers and laptops– and an infinite amount of information and resources through the internet.

During the pandemic, it has become more clear that connecting with family and friends from afar is important for our overall health and well-being as well as connecting with our doctors and health care providers without having to leave the house.

If you want to learn how to be more tech savvy and take advantage of your smartphone, join us at AARP Alaska’s Easy Tech event Friday, November 20, 2020. Learn how easy it can be to get the most out of your smartphone at this virtual workshop.

A local AARP event instructor will help you with the ins and outs of phone technology, including: Texting photos and videos, video calling with friends and family, virtual doctor visits, exploring shopping and other apps.

Getting easy tech training can give you the skills and confidence to access information and services online. Register for the event here

The speaker for both workshops, Ric Syberg, is highly experienced in leading local AARP workshops on topics such as digital literacy, work and jobs, caregiving and smart driver technology.
