From simple do-it-yourself repairs to larger design projects, AARP Wisconsin is offering a free workshop in Onalaska on Monday, June 24, to help area residents make their homes safer and more comfortable for them as they age.

The “HomeFit” workshop will be held at the Onalaska American Legion Struck-Klandrud Post 336, 731 Sand Lake Rd., Onalaska, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participation is free, but space is limited and registration is required. Click here to register or call toll free 1-877-926-8300.

The AARP HomeFit program was developed to educate older adults on how to navigate all types of living spaces independently to allow them to remain in their own homes as they age.

Participants receive information on how to easily evaluate their own home for “livability” should they themselves or one of their family members become unable to use stairs, or must rely on assistive devices. It is designed to help individuals plan for independence, choice and dignity as they age.
