Frank Abagnale to speak near Detroit on Fraud Prevention
Between the ages of 16 and 21, he successfully posed as an airline pilot, an attorney, a doctor and cashed millions in fraudulent checks. In case you didn’t read the best-selling book…spoiler alert…he got caught and his exploits were depicted in the movie Catch Me If You Can starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
For over 40 years, Frank W. Abagnale has advised the FBI on how to outsmart con artists. He is one of the world’s most respected authorities on forgery, embezzlement and secure documents. Now, he’s joined forces with the AARP Fraud Watch Network to help you learn how to spot and avoid scams so you can protect yourself and your family.
These days, Abagnale is an AARP Fraud Watch Ambassador, who has helped raise awareness of criminal activities such as the “tech support scam,” in which fraudsters pose as technicians from one of the major computer companies to gain access to personal computers, files, passwords and credit card information.
Abagnale is coming to Metro Detroit in May to share his special expertise.
AARP is excited to host this free event, which will allow local community members, public safety activists, local law enforcement and interested citizens to come together to learn how to avoid becoming the victim of scams and work together to fight fraud. This consumer education program is coming to Macomb County, one of the fastest-growing counties in Michigan.
Frank Abagnale will speak live at the Macomb Center for Performing Arts in Clinton, MI on Tuesday, May 16th from 6:30 - 8:30. There is a free motorcoach taking guests from Grand Rapids to the venue. If you'd like to reserve a seat on the bus email jmunoz@aarp.org
