Financial Security, Drug Costs Top Legislative Agenda

Posted on 12/31/20 by The AARP Bulletin

Crucial aging concerns, such as financial security, elder abuse and services for the growing 65-plus population, will propel AARP Montana’s agenda for the legislative session that starts Monday, Jan. 4.

“Policymakers need to plan for this shift in demographics by enhancing services” and allowing older residents to remain independent, said Tim Summers, AARP Montana’s state director.

AARP will push for price transparency and a cap on out-of-pocket costs for lifesaving drugs, and an end to drug price gouging.

Another goal: help for the state’s 114,000 family caregivers, through improved guardianship and conservatorship laws and more accessible telehealth.

AARP Montana encourages people to contact legislators at 406-444-4800 or at leg.mt.gov to support this agenda. To become an e-activist, visit aarp.org/getinvolved.
