Feeling ignored, Pennsylvanians Ask Candidates to Take Walk ‘In My Shoes’

Posted on 10/07/22

Voters 50-plus have a lot on their plates. And many are feeling invisible and ignored.

Here in the Commonwealth, we know that many older Pennsylvanians are worried about rising costs for basic needs like food, gas and medication.

“Prices go up, income does not,” shared Patricia from Pennsylvania. “I should not have to choose between buying food or medicine I need or putting gas in my car.”

Recently, AARP has heard from thousands of people all over the country, including here in Pennsylvania, who’ve told us about the stress they feel in their day-to-day lives, and of the future.

Many Pennsylvanians are unable to save enough for retirement or have taken to dipping into their nest eggs just to pay for everyday expenses. Others have had to pay thousands of dollars out of their own pockets to care for their loved ones while juggling a full- or part-time job -- often without paid leave.

With just days left until the General Election, it’s more urgent than ever for candidates to listen to those 50 and older. This powerful constituency votes and candidates need to better understand what it’s like to walk in their shoes. Politicians ignore them at their own risk.

Voters over 50 here in Pennsylvania will decide the course of this election, and they are looking for candidates who will listen.

Tell candidates about what it’s like to walk a day in your shoes. Visit aarp.org/InMyShoes today.
