Gain insight into some of history’s greatest minds this fall at One Day University, hosted by AARP and the Seattle Times.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, four professors will discuss the work of Michelangelo, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and Marie Curie.
“One Day University with The Seattle Times: A Day of Genius” will be held at the University of Washington’s Kane Hall, 4069 Spokane Lane, in Seattle. AARP members and their guests can buy discount tickets for $119.
The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with “The Artistic Genius of Michelangelo,” taught by William Wallace, an art history professor at Washington University in St. Louis. The session will explore the artist’s well-known masterpiece the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
Next, Craig Wright of Yale University will discuss “The Genius (and Rivalry) of Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla,” focusing on the two inventors’ competing visions of how to power America. It runs from 10:25 to 11:30 a.m.
The day will wrap up with “The Scientific Genius of Marie Curie,” from 11:50 a.m. to 12:55 p.m., led by Julia Greer of the California Institute of Technology. The Polish-born Curie launched the science of radioactivity.
